In 1958, the American Medical Association approved a report on the medical use of hypnosis. In 1960 the American Psychological Association endorsed hypnosis as a branch of psychology.
In 1978, the US Federal Government accepted “Hypnotherapist” as a defined occupation and published it in the Dictionary of Occupational Titles. This means that it is completely separate from other kinds of therapists.
